Marle Autumn '23 | My Mind She Runs
Marle's Autumn '23 collection is an ode to Marle Women and Creative Director Juliet Souter herself. A collection that is a true exploration of the way she wanted to see in every situation and every role, as a mother, business owner - as a woman. Upon the release of My Mind She Runs, we spoke with Juliet about all facets of the collection.
Congratulations on the launch of your AW23 collection, its beautiful. Tell us about putting this collection together, what were you thinking about and how did these thoughts take shape?
Thank you, it feels great to finally have it out in the world, we work so far in advance, its nice people are now able to enjoy it. With every collection we start with the fabric and then move to the feeling, what we’re interested in at the time and how we can bring that through into pieces we’re designing. For My Mind She Runs we explored the idea of negative space and how the part that is left clear often inspires the most intrigue. We have simplified down classic forms such as petals and then made them into a cut out shape such as on the Galla Vest, using laser cutting creating the stripes of miniature pinholes of the Pepper Shirt and then alongside this concept we were interested in the simplistic grid and using that to create interest with pin tucks.
The collection as a whole works so beautifully together, when putting it together, do you design with certain looks in mind?
Definitely, this collection saw us go a lot deeper into outerwear - which we’re yet to launch - so imagining what we’d pair that with, creating full outfits is important to the brand as what we make is often a woman’s everyday wardrobe and ensuring we have those every day outfits and pieces considered along with special occasion pieces is crucial to the design process. We also look at the colour palette as a whole and ensure pairings can be made within the tones we’re working with.
What are your favourite pieces from this range and why?
I’ve been living in the Galla Vest, the perfect transeasonal piece, along with the Pepper Shirt. I have been needing a softly tailored blazer for a long time that falls in just the right place but that I can also cinch in at the waist, hence the Arlo Jackets conception. The Clio Trench is another favourite piece, it is the dramatic coat I’ve been needing in a robust fabric. Pairing these all back with the Fia Pants in both colours, the ease with the slim elasticated waistband are hard to go past each day.

We love the outerwear in this collection, the trenches and the soft tailoring. Talk us through these pieces…
Outerwear was a big focus for this collection, our women really resonated with last years Agnes Jacket so we have built upon that piece so watch this space...In keeping with our stance on all natural fibres we have ensured the fill in these outer garments all have cotton fill, its lovely and lightweight but so warm.
As always, the collection is anchored in knitwear, tell us about the new styles we should be adding to our forever wardrobes…
