Anine Bing was launched in 2012 with headquarters in downtown Los Angeles, CA. Inspired by the fusion of Scandinavian heritage and American spirit, Anine Bing offers luxurious staples, wardrobe basics and statement pieces that are current and timeless.
Behind the brand is an amazing team of diverse individuals. Below we meet Emma & Jackie, the art director and global account manager.
Tell us about your respective role as Art Director (Emma):
As an Art Director I oversee all visual content for ANINE BING. I make sure that our imagery is on brand and work very closely with Anine, our Creative Director. Together with our photographers, graphic designers and copywriters we develop campaigns and content that represent the current creative direction of the brand.
What led you to Anine Bing?
Emma: I met Anine in L.A about 10 years ago and we became close friends. After about a year in Los Angeles I went back to Sweden to study art and architecture, and when I graduated Anine talked me into to coming back here to work with her.
Being a lady boss isn’t easy. How does your morning routine get you in gear to start the day?
Emma: I have become such an early bird, I love getting into the office early. The car is where I mentally prep for work, it’s like my think tank.
The beginning of any successful fashion brand requires a lot of moving parts amongst a small team to make the magic happen. How do you remain both focused and innovative within a brand that’s expanding so quickly?
Emma: This office is full of hard working, curious and talented people. When you work for a small start-up, the ability to multitask is key. As the company has grown over time, we’ve grown into more defined separate roles. But we are still very hands on — no task is too small. Structure is important but I also think its equally important to break through the framework to stay efficient and innovative.
What inspires you in your everyday work?
Emma: People, art, music and everyday life.
What’s on your desk?
Emma: Tea, phone, water, papers, books and hard drives.
Describe your style in 3 words.
Emma: Relaxed and effortless with a vintage touch.
Tell us about your respective role as Global Account Manager (Jackie):
As global account manager, I oversee all multi-brand stores who carry ANINE BING around the world. This entails traveling during fashion week, meeting with buyers, and ensuring AB is represented in the best possible way. It is an exciting role and I am lucky to be a part of such an incredible and inspiring team!
What led you here?
Jackie: I had recently moved back to LA after working for a fashion house in Paris. I was considering moving to New York, when I discovered that ANINE BING was looking for a sales manager. I was happy to bring my skills to a young and growing company, and be back in sunny LA with my family and friends.
What excites you about coming to work everyday?
Jackie: We have a nice office environment, and I’m lucky to have such great co-workers and bosses. It’s exciting to be a part of a company that continues to evolve and expand. I have always loved fashion and feel fortunate to be working in a field that I am passionate about.
The beginning of any successful fashion brand requires a lot of moving parts amongst a small team to make the magic happen. How do you remain both focused and innovative within a brand that’s expanding so quickly?
Jackie: I think it’s extremely important to have a good relationship with your colleagues. I’m lucky that we are all very supportive of each other, and share the mutual goal of expanding ANINE BING into a globally recognized and respected brand.
Recent splurge?
Jackie: On a recent business trip to Paris, I found an incredible 1920’s skirt at one of my favorite vintage shops in Le Marais. There is always so much temptation in Paris!
Where’s your favorite LA hideaway to de-stress?
Jackie: My local yoga studio.
Describe your style in 3 words.
Jackie: Voluminous, classy and fashion-forward.
Give us a run-down of a typical day at the HQ office?
Jackie: I am in the office by 8AM and typically start each day talking with our clients. Preparing for the upcoming fashion week keeps me perennially busy!
Emma: I spend a lot of time in front of the computer, in the studio or on location. The creative team is a strong group of inspiring people filled with so many cool and fun ideas that keep us busy everyday. We are so hungry for the new thing. Right now I am very busy with the #AroundTheWorldInANINEBING. It’s SUCH a fun initiative and I am so happy to be going to London with Anine and the rest of the team to shoot the first girl.
Advice you’d give your 20-year-old self?
Jackie: Don’t be afraid to explore outside your comfort zone – you never know where life will take you!
Emma: Worry less and keep swimming. All your hard work will pay off.
